Szymon Woźniak: We will all benefit from cooperation with ABRAMCZYK POLONIA
10.11.2024 08:31After 9 years of riding in the PGE Ekstraliga, Szymon Woźniak stepped down to a lower league to join the ranks of ABRAMCZYK POLONIA Bydgoszcz. At a meeting organized by the “Helping Polonia” Association, fans had the opportunity to talk with the homegrown talent of the Bydgoszcz club.
Szymon Woźniak, despite a difficult season, looks at all the circumstances with optimism. – Of course, this season wasn’t easy for me, but it absolutely doesn’t bring bad associations. The entire string of events has led me to be here with you, wearing this jersey with the black griffin on my chest – he confessed. He also shared his perspective on riding in the METALKAS 2. Liga. – We decided that this is a point in my career where it’s worth taking a risk and taking a step back, considering the league class, to join ABRAMCZYK POLONIA Bydgoszcz and try together with you to fight for that promotion – revealed the speedway rider.
The Bydgoszcz club’s homegrown talent talked about what he wants to bring to the team. – I feel that with this cooperation with ABRAMCZYK POLONIA Bydgoszcz, we can all gain. What I’d like to bring is not only points but also the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over 9 years of riding in the PGE Ekstraliga. I think it may not be the most important, but it’s important. I’d like to share this knowledge with the juniors, work with them and support them a bit. This is what ABRAMCZYK POLONIA Bydgoszcz needs while building solid foundations to fight for promotion to the PGE Ekstraliga. I believe my fresh, Ekstraliga knowledge can be useful – explained the Polish rider.
Changing teams after 7 years with the same club is definitely not easy, and the atmosphere among the riders can significantly influence achievements. Szymon Woźniak talked about his relationships with other team members. – It’s safe to say that there isn’t a rider in our team with whom I don’t have some sort of relationship, except maybe the juniors. I’ve known Krzysztof Buczkowski for many, many years – our paths always crossed somewhere, and we’ve always had a collegial and positive contact. I also know Oleksandr Loktaev from a young age, including mini speedway. With Kai Huckenbeck, we both debuted in the SGP series this year, which led us to talk a lot throughout the season. With Tom Brennan, we rode with Indianerna Kumla this year, and he’s a really nice guy with huge potential – he assessed.
The 31-year-old also addressed the issue of starting numbers. – It makes no difference to me with which starting number I’ll ride. The best approach is to let the coach do his job as best as he can, and we’ll do our job as best as we can – he admitted. Speedway is a specific sport, very individual, but in reality, we ride for the team’s account. If one rider scores 15 points and another 2, that’s 17. But if two score 10 each, that’s 20. We need to go in the direction of extracting as much potential from the team as possible, not relying on individual gain– added the Bydgoszcz native.
For the 2025 season, both fans and speedway riders will have to wait a bit longer. What does the ABRAMCZYK POLONIA rider want to focus on during this time? – Now we need to focus on ensuring all preparations go in the right direction. Starting from equipment through physical and mental preparation to budget planning. We need to gather a good “toolbox” this winter, and when the season and battle time comes, have plenty of those “keys and screwdrivers.” Everything must be buttoned up – summarized Szymon Woźniak.
