ARGED MALESA Ostrów made an important step towards the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga semifinals last Sunday, winning in Łódź against the local H. SKRZYDLEWSKA ORZEŁ 48:42. The behind-the-scenes of the match were revealed by Wiktor Jasiński in an interview for ekstraliga.pl.

The play-off phase on the tracks of the PGE Ekstraliga’s backline has not disappointed from the start. After the excitement in Krosno and the surprise in Poznań, it was not less interesting in Łódź. At the Moto Arena, the local H. SKRZYDLEWSKA ORZEŁ led for a long time against the winner of the regular round, but a thunderous finish changed the course of the competition. Wiktor Jasiński, for whom the return to the Łódź track was painful, will not remember that day fondly.

Grzegorz Adamczyk (ekstraliga.pl): You returned to the track in Łódź in a short time, so did the settings collected during the 12th round help or hinder you that day? The beginning of the competition was very difficult for you.

Wiktor Jasiński (ARGED MALESA Ostrów): We started with the basic settings from that time and made slight adjustments. However, those adjustments did not work at all, and to make matters worse, my engine exploded, so I didn’t have my best unit available. The second equipment was not as tested and matched for that track as the previous one. It was the first defect of this season, unfortunately happening at such a crucial moment for the team. Fortunately, the team made up for the lost points, and for that, I can thank them and simultaneously apologize for letting them down.

Just when it seemed you were on the rise, with the last matches being very good for you, another weaker performance happened. Does it hurt a highly ambitious athlete like you?

Exactly. I service my engines on an ongoing basis, and just for the match in Łódź, my best unit had recently come back from the workshop, and then this happened – the malice of inanimate objects, or rather bad luck. You have to swallow it and move on. In a week, we have a rematch, and we need to approach the fight with cool heads and ride our own.

From your perspective, how did the track look? The hosts loudly announced special preparation of the surface for this match. Were you very surprised?

We expected a hard track, it seemed at least that way at the beginning, but the motorcycles needed a lot of power; we had to reinforce them immediately because at first, they were definitely too weak. We made some speedway adjustments and then figured out what we needed, and the guys did the job.

Your incredible attribute is the fans, who once again traveled long distances for you. How does it feel to perform for such enthusiasts?

This kind of support is extremely valuable. We can always count on the cheers of the entire team from Ostrów Wielkopolski, and that is very important for us. If it weren’t for them, we would just travel to the match, ride fifteen heats, and head home, but with them, we live through the match and rejoice in the victory together with the fans.
