A mixed performance and a malfunction in a crucial race are the summaries of the match in Leszno by Max Fricke. The leader of ZOOLESZCZ GKM Grudziądz scored 8 points, but his and the team’s result could have been better if not for the bad luck in the 11th race. In an interview with ekstraliga.pl, the Australian talked about the match.

The meeting that concluded the 11th round of PGE Ekstraliga had significant weight. Leszno rode with a knife to their throat and aimed not only for two big points but also for the bonus. They didn’t manage to achieve the latter, and Grudziądz – although defeated – could return from Leszno moderately satisfied. Max Fricke admitted after the match that he also felt a bit of dissatisfaction, especially after experiencing a malfunction in one of the races. In an interview with ekstraliga.pl, he also addressed rumors about changing club colors.

Joachim Piwek (ekstraliga.pl): A significant defeat in Leszno, but you managed to achieve the minimum goal, which was to get the bonus.

Max Fricke (ZOOLESZCZ GKM Grudziądz): I think for my team it’s a great result. Everyone performed very well, and it’s nice that we managed to get the bonus despite the defeat. There’s almost a sense of sorrow because of the loss, but it’s important we managed to get the point.

However, a win would be a significant step not towards staying but towards the playoffs…

The hosts are strong at home, and we expected a tough match. Ultimately, we were just a hair’s breadth away from winning, and there’s a certain sense of dissatisfaction, but the most important thing is that we got the bonus point. We are now focusing on the positives and slowly shifting our focus to preparing well for the upcoming matches.

The result could have been even better for you, but you were unlucky in the 11th race.

I had a mechanical failure. Later, I had to change the bike, and that’s never easy in the middle of a match.

Do you know what happened?

No. I had to change equipment and switch to the second bike, and you can’t just transfer the settings to another machine. It’s always a tough task and didn’t go as I would have liked.

Can you say you feel more dissatisfaction than satisfaction with the bonus?

I have a feeling that in the last two races I could have done more, but well – it’s difficult. Now we are looking forward to the next meetings and fighting for points.

I would also like to ask you about the transfer window. You are being linked with BETARD SPARTA Wrocław. Would you like to comment on that?

No. Right now I am in Grudziądz and riding for ZOOLESZCZ GKM. At the moment, we are focusing on the next few weeks, and there is still plenty of time until next year.
