Keynan Rew unexpectedly became the hero of FOGO UNII Leszno in the match against ZOOLESZCZ GKM Grudziądz. The Australian, in the face of the team’s leaders’ poorer performance, scored 11 points. Despite the victory, Leszno remains in a very difficult situation in the PGE Ekstraliga table.

Before the match crowning the 11th round, fans of the blue and white team had the most fears regarding the performance of the 21-year-old. Rew had been the lowest-scoring player for FOGO UNII Leszno in the season so far. However, in this crucial match, he rose to the occasion and, together with Grzegorz Zengota, secured the match’s victory for Leszno, to the delight of 11,000 fans in the stands.

– We won, the atmosphere was great throughout the match, especially during the last race when we were fighting for the overall victory. We felt the support – said Keynan Rew after the match. – I think it was still a good performance from us, but if we want to stay in the league, we need more. The track suited me, but the point is that more of us need to feel good on it – added the Australian.

The oval at the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium was different from what Leszno fans are used to. The start and the proper approach to the first corner were very important. In this, Rew excelled. Only in the 15th race did Vadim Tarasenko overtake him on the track.

– The track was a bit different than usual, and I think that suited me. For me, it was a very successful match, but of course, I would have liked the win to be bigger. We aimed for a bonus but didn’t achieve it. We’re still fighting – he emphasized in an interview with ekstraliga.pl.

Despite the victory, the league status of the most titled speedway club in Poland hangs by a thread. With three rounds left in the season, Leszno does not have everything in their hands. They need to keep winning and hope for favorable results in other matches.

– We’ve had a lot of bad luck and injuries this season. The situation is what it is, and now there’s nothing more we can do about it. We have to give our maximum until the end of the season and see where it takes us – said Keynan Rew, who also admitted that he is not yet thinking about a possible transfer or negotiations with FOGO UNII Leszno. – I’m not thinking about it yet, because I’m still racing. We’ll see how the situation develops. Then I’ll worry about it – he noted.

The next extremely important match for the blue and white team awaits on July 28. In Leszno, FOGO UNII will face BETARD SPARTA Wrocław.
