FOGO UNIA Leszno in the last round of the PGE Ekstraliga fought a tough battle for victory against BETARD SPARTA Wrocław. The outcome of the match was decided in the nominated heats. Sunday’s clash was also the first in which Damian Ratajczak appeared after an injury sustained during a Danish league match.

Damian Ratajczak returned to league racing in fantastic style. In his first race, he passed BETARD SPARTA‘s youth riders on the outside and secured a heat draw for FOGO UNIA. However, he admitted that not everything went according to plan during the event.

– I’m happy with the first race because we were losing 5:1, and I managed to overtake to make it 3:3. In my second race, I made a few mistakes, which cost me the second position. For the last race, I unnecessarily weakened my bike because I didn’t feel confident with those settings at all – summarized the FOGO UNIA homegrown player after the match. – A lot of my mistakes, but it’s also no wonder, because it was my first time returning to league racing after an injury, so it could always have been better, but it could also have been worse – he added.

Despite being weakened, BETARD SPARTA Wrocław strongly resisted their opponents in Sunday’s encounter. Dariusz Śledź‘s protégés led for almost the entire match. The Leszno team snatched the lead from their hands only in the nominated heats. – I expected a tough match and it was. We’re happy we won because the result varied during the event. We keep fighting – summarized Damian Ratajczak in an interview with ekstraliga.pl.

FOGO UNIA Leszno still occupies the last place in the PGE Ekstraliga table. However, the team does not lack faith in maintaining their position, although they will also have to watch the actions of other teams.

– We have to believe and do everything to help those hopes and faith. We know the situation is tough, but we will do everything to maintain faith in staying up. This is sport, things can go different ways, but we realize that we as a team are in the hardest situation – admitted Damian Ratajczak.
