In Sunday’s match, FOGO UNIA Leszno extended their hopes of remaining in the PGE Ekstraliga. The Leszno team won after a hard-fought battle with the weakened BETARD SPARTA Wrocław 47:43. A significant contribution to the hosts’ victory was made by Andzejs Lebedevs, who is still struggling with the effects of a recent injury.

The return of the Latvian after an injury sustained during a match with EBUT.PL STAL Gorzów is not the easiest. The FOGO UNIA rider admitted that he is constantly in pain during the competitions.

– I’ve had some rough weeks in the hospital. After this injury, I will be fully healthy in winter. Everything hurts me in every match. The injury knocked me off my rhythm and I have to hit the right paths, so I take everything I can and ride as much as possible to feel the equipment again and everything else. I hope I’m on the right track and somehow everything will settle – said Andzejs Lebedevs after the match.

The first match after his return did not go as he planned. Sunday’s clash with BETARD SPARTA Wrocław was much better. Lebedevs scored 10 points in five starts. In race no. 15, he secured two crucial match points for his team, winning against, among others, Artem Laguta.

– Before the match, I changed a lot, trained a lot, and tested a lot. I didn’t have a good start in the competitions. This is both good and bad. Good, because it was such a hopeless race that there was no option to get on that bike for the second race. There was a quick change of equipment, and it’s good that it happened because I managed to collect a few points – admitted the Latvian in an interview with ekstraliga.pl.

FOGO UNIA Leszno’s situation in the PGE Ekstraliga table has not improved. There are two matches left until the end of the main round. The protégés of Rafał Okoniewski are focusing mainly on the home clash with EBUT.PL STAL Gorzów, which will take place on August 11.

– Now not everything depends on us. We must win the home match with the Gorzów team and that’s it. We’ll look at the results of other teams and see how it turns out. We will certainly do what we have to do, which is to fight, keep the gas, and work hard for every point – said Lebedevs.
