Niels Kristian Iversen to Stay Longer at ENERGA WYBRZEŻE Gdańsk
18.10.2024 13:43The 2024 season was not successful for ENERGA WYBRZEŻE. The team from Gdańsk finished in last place, which resulted in relegation to the National Speedway League. Now, however, the team is focused on building a lineup to return to the PGE Ekstraliga as quickly as possible.
After appointing Lech Kędziora as the coach and transferring Kacper Grzelak, ENERGA WYBRZEŻE announced another player who will represent them next season. It is the 2013 World Championship individual bronze medalist – Niels Kristian Iversen.
– I am in a place where I feel appreciated, and I decided to stay in Gdańsk, regardless of the league level. We cannot remain in the National Speedway League for more than a year, and I want to help ensure that. I wanted to thank the fans for their support last season. I know it was tough, but I hope you will continue to cheer for us. We want to turn the tide – the Dane said to the club media.
What failed last year and what should be avoided to not repeat these mistakes? – Depth of the lineup, we definitely lacked that. We need seven riders who score points. On paper, it looked good before the season, but ultimately something was always missing. Nicolai Klindt’s injury certainly didn’t help us, although Josh Pickering did a good job as his replacement. There’s also the issue that we started the meetings terribly poorly. It was absurd how many points we lost in the first races. To be honest, I have no idea why it was like that – continues Iversen.
The experienced speedway rider announces that there will be no equipment revolution in his team – the collaboration with Anton Nischler will continue. – Yes, similar to working with Brian Karger, although I intend to mainly use Nischler engines on Polish tracks. This year in Gdańsk, we conducted many successful tests and I don’t see any reason to change. We want to continue what worked for us in the second half of the season – declared the 42-year-old.
What are the Dane’s plans for the coming weeks? – In January, we are going on a family vacation to Thailand again. However, I will continuously focus on my preparation. I definitely want to ride motocross a lot more in the winter. I will traditionally follow running training – we read in the interview, which can be read in full HERE.
