Called by President Krzysztof Sichma, the man of the orchestra, Krzysztof Bas in Śląsk Świętochłowice mainly focuses on running the school. He also helps with other matters, such as the fight for the return of league speedway to Świętochłowice. In an interview for ekstraliga.pl, he not only brought his activities closer, but also assessed the current state of the club’s school.

The return is already written in such large letters that it is impossible not to succeed. We’ve been fighting for so many years together with activists, fans, with Mayor Daniel Beger, that there is really a big chance for it. The building is renovated, the track is new, in the fall we have a guaranteed expansion of 3,500 seats from the city, so our infrastructure is growing and it is good – said Krzysztof Bas.

Working with the youth and nurturing talents is very important for Świętochłowice. As the coach emphasizes, it’s heading in the right direction. – Even though there is no league here, gems appear. Gathering ten, maybe fifteen players is not a problem. The issue is to have equipment for everyone and translate it into quality – he emphasized.

Currently, the biggest problem for young speedway riders seems to be the costs of practicing speedway. However, as Krzysztof Bas says, the club from Świętochłowice tries to help young players as much as possible at the beginning. – It’s a bit different with us. For those parents who can’t, we help them as much as we can in the initial phase. I’m grateful to sponsors, thanks to whom we bought a lot of equipment together. I think this is the method. Later, when the player starts to develop, then parents need to be explained more that they have to participate in the costs. It must be balanced. Both club support and parents – explained the coach of Śląsk Świętochłowice.

Regarding the interest of young speedway sport adepts, many boys are from Świętochłowice, but not only. – Mainly from Świętochłowice. However, everyone is close to each other here. Remember, this is a metropolis and it’s not a problem if someone lives, for example, in Chorzów. But most kids are from Świętochłowice – admitted our interviewee.

Krzysztof Bas is responsible not only for juniors in Świętochłowice, but also in Opole. How does the situation look there? – We definitely hope to develop and move up. It’s known how the last years looked in Opole, however, time cannot be turned back, and we have to think about the future. I think President Dziemba and the city authorities will try to bring the club to a higher level and finally advance to METALKAS 2. Extraliga. Of course, infrastructure needs to be improved a bit. The school is at a good level, every year new players obtain a license. Jakub Fabisz, Oskar Stępień are developing nicely. So we can’t complain, just try to advance the league – he highlighted.

As Krzysztof Bas says, the problem of transitioning from one league to another is not only Opole’s problem. – I think it’s a national issue. It’s too big a leap. We need to do something to mitigate it. It can be said that the National Speedway League does this hard work. Many good players come from there. In my opinion, these regulations should be more lenient for clubs from the lowest level in terms of finances, to mitigate this leap – he summarized.
