It’s time to start the PGE Ekstraliga playoffs! (preview of #ZIELUB and #WROGRU)

Already on Friday (August 23), some teams will begin their battle for medals in the Polish Team Championship. Two of the three quarterfinal playoff battles will take place at the stadiums in Zielona Góra and Wrocław. Broadcasts of both matches will be on ELEVEN SPORTS 1.
First, the match will be held in Zielona Góra, where the local team NOVYHOTEL FALUBAZ will face the defending champion ORLEN OIL MOTOR Lublin. The hosts, fueled by a win over KS APATOR Toruń 46:44, will definitely want to at least scare the team from Lublin. They already managed to challenge the students of Maciej Kuciapa once this season. This happened on July 26. Although the team from Zielona Góra lost to the favored Lublin team, they kept pace with them practically the entire time. It was only in the 15th race that it was decided that ORLEN OIL MOTOR would take home all league points (47:43 – editor’s note).
It is possible that this time it will be similar, or perhaps the home team will even achieve victory. However, the Lublin camp does not hide that they are aiming to achieve their main goal, which is another gold in the Polish Team Championship. The team from Lublin certainly intends to take the first step in that direction already on Friday.

Then the competition will move to Wrocław. At the Olympic Stadium, the local team BETARD SPARTA will face ZOOLESZCZ GKM Grudziądz. The Wrocław team, by triumphing over ORLEN OIL MOTOR Lublin 49:41 at their home ground, secured 2nd place in the table after the regular season. They definitely want to prove that they did not end up in this position by accident and are still in the game for at least a podium finish.
Although the hosts will enter Friday’s clash without Tai Woffinden, they can still be very strong – especially on their own track. They showed this in the aforementioned match against the Lublin team. As for the team from Grudziądz, just participating in the playoffs of the top league is undoubtedly a somewhat historic achievement for them. Especially since they managed to do it for the first time since they started competing in the PGE Ekstraliga (since 2015 – editor’s note). They will do everything in their power to make the most of this opportunity and fight for the best possible result at the end of the 2024 season.
