Grand Final of the PGE Ekstraliga 2024 Postponed!

Due to the forecasted rain on Saturday, which according to forecasts from icm.meteo.pl, yr.no, and wunderground.com is expected during the time of the Grand Final of the PGE Ekstraliga 2024, in agreement with Speedway Lublin SA and WTS SA, participating clubs, Ekstraliga Żużlowa sp. z o.o. has decided to cancel the event on 5.10.2024 and has set a new date for Monday, 7.10.2024 at 19:15.

The current weather conditions with rain, along with the forecasted rainfall for tomorrow, particularly intense during the competition, pose a great risk to holding the final.

The decision to cancel an event due to forecasts is always somewhat of a gamble. But today we have predicted rain during the event time in all major forecasts. We cannot afford to take risks in the situation of the PGE Ekstraliga final. Rain during the competition could prevent the completion of all fifteen races, which is crucial for the outcome of the two-legged tie ” said Wojciech Stępniewski, President of Ekstraliga Żużlowa. We want the Grand Final to not only have great prestige but also to be conducted in sporting competition for both teams and to allow fans to celebrate based on the result of their team. I don’t think staying at an event for 2.5 hours under umbrellas would be enjoyable for the fans ” he added.

The PGE Ekstraliga final is a huge logistical and sporting challenge, both for the league and the organizer, and we want it to be held in possibly the best conditions ” said Jakub Kępa, President of Speedway Lublin SA.

We respect the decision of the governing body, and it’s good it was made now for the fans. We believe that given the prestige and stakes of the Grand Final of the PGE Ekstraliga, it should take place in the best possible track conditions conducive to sporting competition in fifteen races ” added Andrzej Rusko, President of WTS SA.

Decisions to cancel events are never easy and usually come with complications.

Considering all weather forecasts, including those predicting rain on Sunday as well, Ekstraliga Żużlowa, responsible for the entire competition, and the clubs agree that the end of the season deserves the best possible spectacle for fans supporting their teams in the stadium and those watching on TV across Poland. Hence the decision to hold the event on 7.10.2024.
