FOGO UNIA fans in Leszno experienced a bittersweet end to the season. Their favorites decisively defeated strong rivals from Gorzów 53:37, but it was not enough to remain in PGE Ekstraliga. Andzejs Lebedevs’ team got relegated for the second season in a row.

The Latvian player joined Leszno last winter after CELLFAST WILKI Krosno departed from PGE Ekstraliga. In Leszno, Lebedevs quickly gained the sympathy of the fans thanks to his excellent performances on the home track. As he admitted after the match in Leszno, away matches are still an area for significant improvement.

– “Up and down” on my part. There is a lot to improve in away matches, but I did well at home. FOGO UNIA Leszno showed in this match how much bad luck we had this year and what we are capable of when we are in full squad – said the Latvian speedway rider in a post-match interview with the club’s media.

– When we all get motivated together, everything falls into place differently. This season we were shattered, and someone was always missing. It’s a pity. We are relegating with our heads held high, but it doesn’t mean much – said a disheartened Andzejs Lebedevs.

Although the Leszno team was riding just for honor, they could count on strong support from the stands. During several matches this season, tens of thousands of fans filled the stadium. The white-blue fans also came close to double-digit attendance last Sunday.

– We thank the fans for gathering like this. The start was weaker, but then people joined hands and really helped us as much as they could. To some extent, I apologize for that. – concluded the Latvian.
