Without the preparatory tournament in France, but with some changes compared to last year. BETARD SPARTA Wrocław will once again aim to compete for the most important medal in the PGE Ekstraliga before the 2025 season.

Rainfall caused the cancellation of the tournament scheduled for March 9th, concluding the multi-day training session of BETARD SPARTA in France. Twelve riders were supposed to start in Lamothe-Landerron, and the entry list included: Artem Laguta, David Bellego, Bartłomiej Kowalski, Adam Ellis, Daniel Bewley, Steven Goret, Jakub Krawczyk, Marcel Kowolik, Nikodem Mikołajczyk, Maciej Janowski, Brady Kurtz, and Lukas Fienhage. 

What’s happening with BETARD Sparta Wrocław before the new season?

New Mechanic

The promising 2024 season turned tragic for Aleksandr Grygolec as he was forced to end his speedway career in August due to a severe car accident that almost cost him his leg. Despite ending his career, during which he rode exclusively for ORZEŁ Łódź, Grygolec decided to stay involved in the sport. It was quite a surprise then that in the 2025 season, he would join BETARD SPARTA Wrocław as a club mechanic.

Kurtz for Woffinden

After a successful 2024 season, where he secured a place in the Speedway Grand Prix and won the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga with INNPRO ROW Rybnik as well as the British SGB Premiership with Belle Vue Aces, Brady Kurtz was surprised, as he puts it, by a call from representatives of BETARD SPARTA Wrocław, who offered him the spot vacated by Tai Woffinden, who departed to ZKS STAL Rzeszów the previous season. The two-time Australian champion last raced at the highest league level in 2020 for FOGO UNIA Leszno. Adrian Skubis – Communication Advisor to the Board at the Wrocław club, said: – Brady Kurtz is expected to strengthen the team. All the pieces are in place at BETARD SPARTA, and Kurtz will fill in for Woffinden.

Changes with Janowski

In the 2024 season, Maciej Janowski not only raced in the PGE Ekstraliga for BETARD SPARTA Wrocław but also competed in the Swedish league (for Dackarna Malilla) and the British league (for Oxford Spires). In an interview with Rafał Darżynkiewicz for the Polski Żużel TV channel, he admitted that the excess of performances translates into a lack of time for equipment servicing. – I’m not talking specifically about engines, but about paying more attention to various components. That’s why I’ve decided to skip the Swedish league in the upcoming season – he says in his conversation with Darżynkiewicz. In the 2025 season, Janowski will be a rider for two teams – BETARD SPARTA Wrocław and Oxford Spires, also looking for a method to return to the Grand Prix cycle. Adrian Skubis states that Janowski is experienced enough that this change shouldn’t alter the situation for the Polish club.
