The current weather conditions in the form of rain, the forecasted rain for the next day, especially intense during the event, pose a significant risk for holding the final.
– The decision to cancel the event due to forecasts is always a kind of gamble. But today we have forecasted rain during the event in all significant forecasts. We cannot afford the risk in the final of the PGE Ekstraliga. Rain during the event could prevent completing the full fifteen races, which is very important for the result of the two-leg match. – said Wojciech Stępniewski, President of Ekstraliga Żużlowa. – We want the Great Final to not only have great significance but also be played in a sporting competition for both teams and allow fans to celebrate their team’s results. I don’t think being at the event for 2.5 hours under the cover of umbrellas would be enjoyable for the fans – he added.
– The final of PGE Ekstraliga is a great logistical and sporting challenge for both the league and the organizer, and we want it to be played in possibly the best conditions – said Jakub Kępa, President of Speedway Lublin SA.
– We respect the decision of the governing body, and it is good that it was made now for the sake of the fans. We believe that due to the importance and stakes of the Great Final of PGE Ekstraliga, it should take place in the best possible track conditions, conducive to sporting competition in fifteen races – added Andrzej Rusko, President of WTS SA.
Decisions to cancel an event are never easy and usually come with complications.
Considering all the weather forecasts, including those predicting rain on Sunday as well, Ekstraliga Żużlowa, as the responsible body for the entire competition, as well as the clubs, unanimously agree that the season’s culmination deserves the best possible spectacle for fans who support their teams at the stadium and those watching on TV across Poland. Hence the decision to hold the event on 7.10.2024.
