Szymon Woźniak said goodbye to EBUT.PL STAL and fans. “I experienced amazing sporting moments”
01.10.2024 09:27In an extensive message on his social media profiles, Szymon Woźniak thanked the fans and team for 7 seasons in Gorzów colors. – It’s time to say goodbye because life has put another stage in front of me – he wrote.
Szymon Woźniak joined the STAL Gorzów team in 2018. Over all seasons, he won 3 silver and 1 bronze PGE Ekstraliga medals with the club. This year’s season started well for the player, but the last few months were not successful, including 27th place in the individual classification (1.702 pts/race) and no spot in SGP for 2025.
Szymon Woźniak’s statement (original spelling):
Dear Stalowcy,
First of all, I apologize to you that I have to say goodbye this way, but the course of recent events did not give me another option.
I spent the last 7 seasons with you and although we planned another – life wrote its own scenario and I have to accept it. I experienced incredible sporting moments with Stal. I will never forget the victory against Unia Leszno in 2019, which then lost its only match of the season and we saved the Ekstraliga with it. I remember saying to the coach before the nominated races: “coach, if you give me the 4th field in the 15th, I will win this race” and before the last race, it was 42-42.
I will never forget the 2020 season when we lost 6 consecutive matches, but the strength, calm, and faith of the coach did not allow our team to waver, which later led us to the silver medal by defeating Sparta in the semi-final. I will never forget losing to Włókniarz by probably 10 points on our own track and taking the bonus point in Częstochowa by winning, I think, by 16 points when we were losing by 12 points halfway through the match.
I will never forget the joy after winning the bronze medal in 2021 when we celebrated together at Jancarzu as if we had won gold.
I will never forget winning the quarter-final in Toruń when Martin and Anders were injured, and we stepped into that match with probably the biggest bomb in my sporting history, winning without two leaders thanks to the brilliant tactics of coach Chomski.
I will never forget winning the semi-final in Częstochowa, when we took care of it in the last race…
Today I would like to write that I feel incredibly lucky because I could be part of this team, create these events and emotions, which are the most beautiful thing that sport gives us: proving that the impossible does not exist, especially when you have such great players-friends and a coaching staff where one would honestly jump into the fire for the other. Thanks to these 7 seasons under coach Chomski, I learned what a team, faith, and monolith mean. I wish I could be part of such a project until the end of my career, and I will always strive to create such a team around my box.
We also experienced bitter moments together, which will always remain in my memory. Here I would like to thank you, dear fans, because although I sometimes let you down, you never made me feel like you were fed up with me. You are amazing, and I promise that I will always have a place in my heart for you, to which I will return with incredible nostalgia. It was at Stal that I turned from a young boy into a man, became a husband, and a father, won several medals, and fulfilled one of my biggest dreams by advancing to the Grand Prix. Unfortunately, fulfilling dreams is sometimes very costly, and I have to accept that. I know I let you down this year, and the last 2 months of my performance are far below your and my expectations. Apparently, when you aim really high – you can’t lose, and I don’t feel lost either. However, my price is parting with Gorzów, which stabs a sword into my heart…. I would like to thank all the players once again at whose side I could create these stories. Thank you, Bartek, from whom I learned a lot inspired by his determination, thank you, Martin, and Anders, with whom we pulled the team results from outer space, and along with the Oscars, we proved that without Bartek, Stal can still be strong and resilient. Thank you, Kuba, for the commitment this year, even when things did not go well, and finally straightened out. Thank you, the other Kuba, who made incredible progress this year and proved what he is capable of. You are great, and I wish you health and success in every race. Thank you, coach Chomski, whom I can unhesitatingly call my speedway dad. A coach who treated us as his own children. He defended us, stood up for us, took the pressure off us, and made it possible for us to focus on what we do best. Thank you to the rest of the coaching staff, club mechanics, all employees, and sponsors, both my private ones and club sponsors. “Gorzów lives with speedway” thanks to such donors, it is not an empty slogan, and I will never forget how much you did for me and the club. I also thank the management because thanks to you, I could be part of it.
I wish every young speedway rider to one day join such a team, such a club, and under such wings and feel what I was able to feel.
It’s time to say goodbye because life has put another stage in front of me.
Thank you all! You are amazing!
