SPEEDWAY/NEWS/PGEE: Częstochowa Evening with Józef Jarmuła

On a Monday evening, thanks to Józef Jarmuła, fans revisited beautiful memories. During a meeting at Hotel Arche Częstochowa, the speedway legend shared stories about his experiences, which revolved primarily around the sport of speedway.

Józef Jarmuła is an iconic figure not only for the fans of Częstochowa’s Włókniarz, with whom he won the Polish Team Championship. He is a hero who repeatedly proved on the track that he was ahead of his time. It is no wonder that he once openly admitted that he was born too early.

In the 1970s, there was no one in Częstochowa who did not know the name Jarmuła. Włókniarz fans going to speedway matches were prepared for a great show. Many of them went “for Jarmuła.” He attracted the audience like a magnet and… he still has it!

Attendance at this event was a pleasant surprise. Minutes before the start and the official welcome of the evening’s star, the organizers were hastily setting up more chairs for the ever-increasing number of guests. Among them were Mr. Józef’s track colleagues: Marek Cieślak, Lech Zapart, Józef Kafel, and Jerzy Łotocki. Also present were Dariusz Rachwalik and Rafał Osumek.

Józef Jarmuła received a standing ovation as he headed to his designated honorary seat. The hero of the day’s reaction was disarming, as Mr. Józef dramatically grabbed his head upon seeing the applauding crowd. At the beginning, in his cheeky style, he asked who among those present remembered him from his time on the track. A forest of hands went up.

Thanks to Józef Jarmuła’s stories and anecdotes, which he reminisced about with his mentioned track colleagues, everyone was transported back in time. The faces of people who came to see their idol again after many years expressed nostalgia, while the spark in their eyes was proof that memories were reignited. The atmosphere of past years was also palpable thanks to a motorcycle with an upright engine mount — exactly like the ones Mr. Józef used during his heyday.

Guests at the meeting with Józef Jarmuła were able to purchase his autobiography, with all proceeds dedicated to riders who have permanently lost their health due to speedway accidents.
