On October 22, 1980, the first speedway competition took place in Opole. It was a regional league elimination event with the participation of Budowlani Rybnik, Górnik Czeladź, and Stal Cieszyn. This year’s season will be exceptional for both the city and the club, namely KOLEJARZ Opole.
The main event is to be the Golden Helmet final, which will be held for the fourth consecutive time on the Opole track. This tournament also serves as a Memorial for Jerzy Szczakiel, and as the club’s official website reports, discussions are ongoing about an additional prize – the Speedway 75th Anniversary Cup. The date of the event is not known at this time.

These are not the only attractions awaiting fans in Opole. There are also plans for a collector’s calendar showcasing the history of speedway, a photo exhibition, a book, and a treasure hunt game. In mid-March, a presentation of KOLEJARZ is scheduled to take place, and all celebrations will culminate in a ceremonial Gala planned after the end of the 2025 season.
