In 2024, he achieved the success of his life by becoming a bronze medalist in the Individual European Championships. In the PGE Ekstraliga, he had the second-highest average in KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ Częstochowa. Now, Kacper Woryna is preparing for the upcoming 2025 season to make further progress in his career.

  • Kacper Woryna is pleased that his team will inaugurate the PGE Ekstraliga on their own track.
  • Everything is going according to plan. New solutions are also being implemented – said the KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ rider about preparations for the season.

Norbert Giżyński (ekstraliga.pl): 2024 is behind us. How was it for Kacper Woryna?

Kacper Woryna (KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ Częstochowa): Nice. Personally, I will remember the year that has just passed very well, both in terms of sports and private matters. As for sports issues, we are constantly aiming higher. However, I definitely have reasons to be satisfied. I look to the future with optimism.

When it comes to league struggles, it was definitely below expectations…

As a team, definitely. We did not expect this. However, we talked a lot about it earlier, and I would like to draw a thick line under it. I am simply looking forward to the new season.

I would like to ask more about the 2024 season, specifically regarding league matters. This might be small consolation, but nonetheless, you achieved the second-highest average in the team.

I can’t complain about my league performances. It seems to me – looking from my perspective – I rode, at least, relatively steadily. It is important not to have any form fluctuations, preferably. Therefore, in terms of individual starts in the PGE Ekstraliga, I assess this season as good. But, of course, I would like more and more (laughs).

Last season was certainly successful for you in terms of international competitions. After all, you took third place in the SEC.

Yes. It is definitely a plus, giving plenty of reasons to be happy. This medal is very pleasing, yet, as I mentioned, one always wants to achieve more, and the bronze medal in the European Championships strongly motivates further work.

So you intend to take a step towards the next European Championships medal, a more valuable metal?

We certainly, as a team, have such goals and we will fight for them. I am talking about both individual and league plans.

Regarding the 2024 season, I remember when we talked at the very start of the league struggles (in Leszno on April 12 – editor’s note). It was about advancing to the elite Speedway Grand Prix cycle. You also qualified for the international eliminations of these championships. I asked you if you also aim to win a spot in the Individual World Championships. You replied then: “It’s on my mind.” Unfortunately, it didn’t work out…

And I missed it (laughs). That’s sport for you.

How are your preparations for the upcoming season going?

At the moment, I am working to optimally prepare for the season. Everything is going according to plan. New solutions are also being implemented. After all, if you did the same thing all the time, you wouldn’t progress. Anyway, it’s nothing spectacular. As every year, I try to approach preparations as professionally as I can. I have a circle of people around me, thanks to whom it is possible and I listen to them.

The current KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ Częstochowa squad is significantly different from previous seasons. Experts or speedway fans often say that you will probably fight to stay in the league. How does it look from your point of view?

It’s hard to fight just for survival or lower positions in the standings. That might be all we have left if we don’t manage during the season. We will fight for the highest goals possible. And what will be the final points tally, we’ll see.

In December of last year, the former president of KRONO-PLAST WŁÓKNIARZ, Marian Maślanka, said in an interview with a sports portal that he sees one of the current Częstochowa team’s players as its future leader. Who do you think he indicated?

Szymon Ludwiczek (laughs).

(laughs) Unfortunately, you didn’t hit the mark with your answer. Anyway, Mr. Marian meant you. How would you comment on this?

I realize that Mr. Marian believes in me a lot. It flatters me greatly. And it’s also why I am preparing for the next season, training to earn as many points as possible for the team. And when you bring in those “points,” you become the team leader at some point. It would certainly be nice, but above all, I want to be a strong pillar of the team and pull it up by its ears. I think every player will aim to become a team leader – to some extent – and to gather as many “points” as possible for the team to emerge victorious from match-ups.

Your first match in the PGE Ekstraliga is scheduled for April 11 with BAYERSYSTEM GKM Grudziądz. You can already look positively at this match, at least in terms of finally inaugurating the season at home, not away, after two seasons.

Yes, I think this situation is a plus for us. Especially since a year and two years ago, we started the competition away. Although there isn’t much of a significant difference in this matter, you can feel more comfortable starting the season on your own track. This may help us enter the season more smoothly.

From Kacper Woryna’s perspective. What final result would be satisfying for you?

Certainly, advancing to the playoffs – I mean the upper part of the table – would be satisfying. And if we make it to the final part of the competition, I would take any medal blindly. Anyway, that would be a big and pleasant plus.

I see you have great faith in the team’s potential.

Faith is one thing. Another is knowing that in modern-times speedway, names do not always guarantee results. I hope our team – each player individually – will score a sufficiently high number of points. I do not assess the potential based on the previous season, as it can be turned upside down in the future and turned into success.

At the end of last year, Mariusz Staszewski became the coach of KRON-PLAT WŁÓKNIARZ Częstochowa. What is your opinion on working with this coach?

It was definitely good news between Christmas and New Year. It is a big plus for our team. We are happy to have a great coach.
